About Northern Cote
What is Northern Cote?
Northern Cote is an American premium women's activewear brand founded in 2023, built around the craft of 3D seamless knitting. Every piece is designed to move with the body like a second skin — structured enough for the studio, refined enough for the street.
Where is Northern Cote based?
Northern Cote is an American brand with its innovation center in Seattle. Our garments are crafted using advanced 3D knitting technology, designed for the modern woman who moves through her day without changing who she is.
What makes Northern Cote different from other activewear brands?
Most activewear is built around performance metrics. Northern Cote is built around the woman wearing it. Our 3D seamless knitting process eliminates the seams, cuts, and construction shortcuts that create discomfort — producing garments with a precision fit that feels made for your body. Paired with sustainable ocean-waste yarn and a slow manufacturing philosophy, each piece is designed to last and to mean something.
Who is Northern Cote designed for?
Northern Cote is designed for the woman who doesn't separate her active life from the rest of it — who moves from a morning Pilates class to a lunch meeting without losing her sense of self. She values quality over quantity, prefers understated design over loud branding, and expects her clothes to keep up without drawing attention to themselves.
What is 3D seamless knitting technology?
3D knitting is a manufacturing process that constructs a garment directly from yarn in a single continuous piece — no cutting, minimal sewing. Using advanced computerised knitting machines, the fabric is shaped to the body's contours from the start, allowing for varied densities, targeted support zones, and a finish with no pressure seams. The result is activewear that fits more precisely, lasts longer, and produces significantly less material waste than conventional construction.
Is Northern Cote a sustainable brand?
Sustainability is built into how we make, not just what we say. Our knitting process reduces fabric waste at the production stage by eliminating the cut-and-sew model. Our Revival Collection is crafted from recycled ocean-waste yarn — material recovered from marine environments and transformed into high-performance fabric. We believe the most sustainable garment is one made carefully and worn for a long time.

Fit & Sizing
How do I find my size?
We recommend starting with our Size Guide, which includes measurements for bras, leggings, relaxed tops, and fitted tops. For bras, pay attention to both band and cup measurements for the most accurate fit. If you're still unsure, our team is happy to help — reach out via Instagram or the Contact page.
I'm between sizes — which should I choose?
It depends on the garment and your preference. For leggings and fitted tops, we generally suggest sizing up if you prefer a more comfortable feel, or staying with the smaller size if you prefer a closer, compressive fit. Our seamless construction has natural stretch, so both options tend to work well. When in doubt, our team can advise based on your measurements.
How does seamless construction affect fit?
Because our seamless garments are knitted as a single piece rather than cut and sewn, there are no seams to create pressure points or bunching. The fabric contours to the body's natural shape and moves with it — which means fit is determined more by the overall silhouette than by seam placement. Most customers find Northern Cote garments feel more consistent and body-conforming than conventional activewear.
Do Northern Cote garments run true to size?
Northern Cote garments are designed to fit true to size. Our fabrics come in two constructions: four-way stretch, which adapts to both vertical and horizontal movement and is used in most leggings and fitted styles; and two-way stretch, found in select tops and relaxed silhouettes. Both offer a comfortable, body-conforming fit — we recommend following the size guide measurements, and if you're between sizes, our team is happy to advise based on your specific measurements.

How should I care for my Northern Cote activewear?
To preserve the quality and performance of your garment, machine wash in cold water with similar colours and use a mild, non-softening detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softener, as these can degrade the technical properties of the fabric. Air drying is strongly recommended — if using a dryer, select a low-heat setting. Always refer to the care label on your specific garment for instructions.
Can I use fabric softener on my activewear?
We recommend avoiding fabric softener. While it may feel like it improves softness, it coats the fibres and gradually breaks down the stretch, moisture management, and compression properties that make the fabric perform. A mild, non-softening detergent in cold water is all you need to keep your Northern Cote garments looking and feeling their best.
Can I tumble dry my activewear?
Air drying is preferable to prolong the life of your activewear. If using a dryer, opt for a low-heat setting to minimize potential damage to the fabric and elastic components.
Product & Materials
What materials are used in Northern Cote garments?
Northern Cote garments are constructed from a curated range of proprietary fabric blends, each developed for a specific feel and function. Our four core fabrics are Tenderlux, a sleek microfiber with moisture management; Tranquil, a breathable mid-compression knit for everyday wear; Tranquil-Soft, a super-soft low-compression fabric for a second-skin feel; and Cohesion, a high-compression microfiber with cooling properties for more intense activity. All fabrics are knitted seamlessly using 3D knitting technology.
What is ocean-waste yarn?
Ocean-waste yarn is recycled fibre recovered from marine environments — including discarded fishing nets, plastic waste collected from coastlines and ocean surfaces — and processed into high-performance yarn. Northern Cote uses ocean-waste yarn in our Revival Collection, where garments are made from 85% recycled content. It performs identically to conventional yarn in terms of stretch, recovery, and durability, with a significantly reduced environmental footprint.
How does the fabric feel against the skin?
Northern Cote fabrics are designed to feel like a second skin — smooth, non-restrictive, and free of the pressure points that seams typically create. Depending on the style, you'll find either the sleek, lightweight feel of Tenderlux and Cohesion, or the softer, more cushioned hand of Tranquil and Tranquil-Soft. All fabrics are selected for their comfort against the skin during both movement and rest.
How does Northern Cote approach the dyeing process?
Conventional fabric dyeing is one of the most water-intensive and chemically demanding processes in the fashion industry. Northern Cote uses an innovative dyeing technique that reduces water consumption to just 25 litres per kilogram of fabric — a fraction of the industry standard. Up to 95% of wastewater is recycled within the process, and our use of chemical auxiliaries has been reduced by half. The result is fabric that meets the same quality and colour standards, with a significantly smaller environmental footprint.
